ÖKOTEX STANDARD 100, CLASS I
The STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is a worldwide consistent, independent testing and certification system for raw, semi-finished, and finished textile products at all processing levels, as well as accessory materials used.
The precondition for the certification of products in accordance with OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is that all parts of an article meet the required criteria - in addition to the outer fabric, for example, also the sewing threads, inserts, prints etc., as well as non-textile accessories, such as buttons, zip fasteners, rivets etc.
A large proportion of our yarns are certified according to Oekotex Standard 100, Class I (for Babies). Confidence in textiles – this has been the motto of the independent test institutes of the International Oeko-Tex Association since 1992, with their tests for harmful substances according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 for textile products of all types which pose no risk whatsoever to health.
Our aim is to reduce our CO2 output coming from our production by 35% till 2023. We want to reach this with following actions:
- Renovate and increase the efficiency of our hydroelectric power plant (implemented in 2010, increased the efficiency of 35% = CO2 conservation approx. 42T)
- Renovation of the existing production building (isolation of the outside walls to save heating energy)
- New CO2 neutral heating system (replacement of the existing oil heating)
- Producing more energy efficient by making investments in new machines with less energy consumption
Camenzind + Co. AG takes part of high quality myclimate carbon offset projects, in order to participate actively in a world wide CO2 reduction. Thanks to this projects, we are able to avoid annually approximate 18’000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2-equivalents). They all support the Gold-Standard-CDM-Projects, which are also recommended by WWF. Due to an annual funding of these projects, we can compensate our CO2 emissions and are allowed to call us “climate neutral company”.
Climate protection and energy efficiency
The SME model provides energy management for small and medium-size companies that do not have their own energy officer, emit less than 1500 tons of CO2 annually and spend less than 1 000 000 francs on energy. With minimal outlay, existing energy efficiency potential is ascertained and exploited by means of cost-effective measures. Opting for the SME model is already worthwhile as of annual energy costs of 20 000 francs.
Company-specific efficiency measures
Based on the information from the energy check-up, the EnAW consultant suggests appropriate efficiency measures. The measures are guided by the cost effectiveness principle. The company decides when to implement which measures.
Concluding a target agreement
Based on the measures catalogue, the company management and the EnAW consultant determine how much energy and CO2 the establishment should save. The savings target is written into a target agreement. The duration of the target agreement under the SME model is ten years and it lays out the efficiency targets for each individual year.
